New Dues Calculation Effective March 4, 2018

Heartland Paralegal Association's membership year runs May 1 to April 30 each year. New memberships initiated between November 1 and April 1 in any year will be automatically pro-rated based on the membership year remaining. New memberships initiated during our annual renewal period (April 1 to May 30) will be applied to the new membership year.

Heartland Paralegal Association's membership is comprised of paralegals, legal assistants, paralegal educators and students, legal secretaries, legal support staff, law firms, and vendors who support its goals and purpose. Our members work in law firms, courts, and corporations, and represent a wide variety of legal practice areas.

By submitting this application online, you certify that you are over the age of 18, and have never been convicted of a felony. Further, you agree to be bound by the NALA Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility.

Voting $40.00 (USD), prorated to $6.67 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: May 1st No automatically recurring payments Voting Membership. Choose the first one under which you qualify.

1. Any individual who has been awarded the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA)/Certified Paralegal (CP) designation from NALA by successfully completing the NALA CP Examination. Date of completion is REQUIRED for membership approval.

2. Any individual who has graduated from an ABA approved program of study for paralegals. If you are unsure if your program was ABA-approved, visit the ABA website to verify. Program name REQUIRED for membership approval.

3. Any individual who has graduated from a course of study for paralegals which is institutionally accredited but not ABA approved, and which requires not less than the equivalent of 60 semester hours of classroom study. Program name REQUIRED for membership approval.

4. Any individual who has graduated from a course of study for paralegals other than those set forth in (ii) and (iii) above, and has at least six months of in-house training as a paralegal. EMPLOYER ATTESTATION FORM REQUIRED for membership approval.

5. Any individual who has received a baccalaureate degree in any field, and has at least six months in-house training as a paralegal. EMPLOYER ATTESTATION FORM REQUIRED for membership approval.

6. Any individual who has a minimum of three years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney, including at least six months of in- house training as a paralegal. EMPLOYER ATTESTATION FORM REQUIRED for membership approval.

Paralegal Student $20.00 (USD), prorated to $3.33 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: May 1st No automatically recurring payments Any individual who is enrolled, either full-time or part-time, as students in good standing in any college, junior college or other school pursuing a course of study as a paralegal, and WHO DOES NOT OTHERWISE QUALIFY FOR VOTING MEMBERSHIP.

SCHOOL ATTESTATION FORM REQUIRED for membership approval.

Sustaining Members (Business Partners) $65.00 (USD), prorated to $10.83 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: May 1st No automatically recurring payments Those law firms, bar associations, corporations and other business entities, and other persons who support the paralegal concept or who are actively involved in the promotion of the paralegal profession.

Associate Member $25.00 (USD), prorated to $4.17 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: May 1st No automatically recurring payments An Associate member is a non-voting member of HPA. Associate members may chair or serve on committees but may not hold office. Associate membership is open to:

1. Individual members of bar associations endorsing the legal assistant concept or involved in the promotion of the legal assistant profession.

2. Individuals of the educational field endorsing the legal assistant concept or involved in the promotion of the legal assistant profession.

3. Those individuals who are employed by a law firm, corporation, or governmental entity, and who provide legal support to attorneys and/or paralegals, and who do not otherwise qualify for Voting membership.

4. Those individuals employed as legal administrators or paralegal supervisors who do not otherwise qualify for Voting membership.

5. Those individuals who previously qualified for Voting membership who have retired from the legal profession, either permanently or temporarily.
